ABOUT THE COMPANY – DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM

The Department of Tourism, as one of the South African government departments, is responsible for the development and promotion of tourism within South Africa, as well as from other countries to South Africa.

The department’s vision is to create tourism development that is sustainable, to allow for economic growth in South Africa. The aim is to increase investment within the countries tourism sector, develop a culture of tourism amongst South Africans, increase inbound tourism, and increase how the sector contributes to economic growth and job creation.

ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

The Department of Tourism will be awarding bursaries to students within the following fields:

  • ​​Communication Technologies
  • ​Construction Management
  • Development Studies
  • Economics
  • Environmental Management
  • Human Resources Management and Development
  • ​Information Technology (Soft Development, Data Warehousing and related fields)
  • International Relations
  • ​Project Management
  • Tourism Management/ Tourism Development

Bursaries will be awarded 1 year at a time and will be renewed based on academic performance and availability of funds.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • South African citizen
  • Completed Matric
  • Studying or intend on studying full-time within one of the aforementioned fields of study (Undergraduate/ Postgraduate/ Honours and Masters)
  • Studying or intend on studying at a recognized South African tertiary institution
  • NOT currently employed
  • NOT a staff member of The National Department of Tourism

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE BURSARY

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application be disregarded):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate (certified copy)
  • Other qualification certificates, if applicable (certified copies)
  • Recent academic records (certified copy)
  • Confirmation of registration (if currently registered to study at a tertiary institution)
  • Parents/ guardians proof of household income (latest payslips if employed/ affidavit if unemployed)
  • Admission letter
  • Research proposal (Honours and Masters degree students only)
  • Motivational letter supporting your application
